  • completing start-up procedures
  • completing cage operation procedures
  • completing transporting explosives operations
  • monitoring and managing cage performance using indicators
  • isolating, servicing, cleaning and adjusting the cage

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in conducting cage operations through:

  • hand and power tools
  • the key areas of mining acts and regulations pertaining to winding
  • identification of defects relevant to cage operations through inspection or observation
  • trip and fault procedures and abnormal conditions
  • communication system between cage and winder
  • isolation and permit-to-work procedures
  • mine ventilation system
  • site procedures
  • in-shaft communication equipment

Assessment Conditions
